Rebble Board Elections, 2026

On the 5th of Feb 2026 at 21:00 UTC the current Rebble board of directors met to discuss the process by which we will elect the next board! The meeting notes are as follows:

21:08 - Intros ended, started discussing elections.

We discussed the various methods of voting and counting voting.

We agreed that the next board’s members shall be not be voted in to specific positions, the next board can decide who holds which position.

We discussed how real the threat of someone abusing the board election process is.

Then moved on and discussed the outreach program.
We’re each going to pick 3-5 people we would like to apply to the board and we will reach out to them encouraging application.

We agreed we shall product some documentation explaining responsibilities of the board members

Board members should reach out to community members who they think the community should vote on hearing from (even if board members do not fully agree with that community member that they are inviting to self-nominate!)

The board shall divide up outreach tasks

5th Feb is the chosen cut off date for Rebble accounts. Only people with accounts created before this date shall be included in the voting electorate.

We discussed exactly how we will collect votes, the UX, the implications of ranking systems. We will implement the system as part of Rebble infrastructure, to make it easy for end users.

[Motion:] Execute proposal as defined in the election proposal document (This document is not currently public)

Here is the election plan:

Rebble Election Rules, 2026

These election rules apply to the 2026 Rebble Elections only, and are written with a handful of special cases for the case in which all five seats turn over simultaneously. Future election rules will be decided by a future board.

Overview

All 5 board seats will be placed up for election. 5 members will be elected, with 3 members receiving 2 year terms, and 2 members receiving 1 year terms. The election will be conducted in a 2 phase process: Nomination, and Voting. Anyone who would like to be a candidate will submit a statement during the nomination phase, describing why they believe they should be elected for the voting populace to view. Rebble community members will vote on candidates during the voting phase, and after voting has concluded, votes will be counted and a new board will be formed effective immediately based on the outcome of the vote.

Outreach phase

  • Documentation for responsibilities of the board
  • Board members should reach out to community members who they think the community should vote on hearing from (even if board members do not fully agree with that community member that they are inviting to self-nominate!)
  • Each board member brainstorms not less than five people and posts them in Board-private channel by the time they go to sleep on what they call Monday, February 9th

Nomination Phase

During the nomination phase, any member of the Rebble community may choose to nominate themselves as a candidate for election. To do so, they must submit a form with their answers to the following questions:

  • What usernames do you use in community spaces?
    • Discord
    • Reddit (optional)
    • App Store/Developer Portal account (optional)
    • Dev Forum (optional)
    • Any other relevant online presence (optional)
  • Who are you, and what are some of the main contributions you’ve made to the Rebble community? (Max. 500 words)
  • If you are elected, what do you intend to do in your capacity as a Foundation board member? (Max. 500 words)
  • Please list any potential conflicts of interest with your responsibilities as a Foundation board member. (These are not disqualifying, but everybody should know in advance!) (Max. 50 words)

The nomination phase will last for a period of 2 weeks, beginning Monday, February 16th, and the voting phase will begin immediately at the end of the nomination phase.

Nominations will be collected through a Google Form. The Board can choose to publish aggregate statistics about nominations during the nomination phase, but not specifics about any nominee.

Voting Phase

During the voting phase, beginning Monday, March 2nd, Rebble community members (defined as anyone holding a Rebble account before 2025/2/5 21:30 UTC) will cast their votes for candidates according to their preferences. Voting will be conducted as an instant-runoff vote, where voters will be presented with a list of all candidates, and asked to rank not fewer than three candidates from 1 to the total number of candidates in order of their preference (where 1 is their first preference, 2 is their second preference, etc.). The voting phase will last for a period of 1 week, at the end of which votes will be counted, results will be announced, and a new board will be formed according to the results.

Determining Results

A valid result will consist of 5 new members that have been selected to form the new board, of which at least 2 members must be a currently sitting board member for the purposes of ensuring board continuity. To determine a result, votes will be counted using the standard procedure for an instant-runoff vote:

  1. Count the number of first preference votes each candidate received
  2. Eliminate the candidate with the least amount of votes
  3. Recount votes, using the next preference for any votes previously counted for the eliminated candidate
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until one candidate remains
  5. That candidate is entered into the new Foundation board
  6. Remove all eliminations, and eliminate only candidates that have already been elected onto the Board. Repeat steps 1 through 5 until five candidates have been elected.

The remaining 5 candidates will go on to form the new Foundation board.

Two sitting board members must remain on the new Foundation board. If a seat is being elected that requires a sitting board member (i.e., three seats have already been elected, and no seats have been assigned to sitting board members; or four seats have been elected, and only one has been assigned to a sitting board member), all candidates that are not sitting board members are eliminated.

Currently sitting board members will receive 1-year terms. In the event that more than 2 currently sitting board members are elected, additional elimination rounds should be conducted until 2 of the currently sitting board members are eliminated. Those 2 candidates will receive 1 year terms, with the rest receiving 2 year terms.

The Board will meet to ratify results on Thursday, March 12th, at the usual time (1pm Pacific), and results will be announced immediately after results are ratified.
